Celebrating 20 years of Wellington Bowmen

Club championship & 20th Anniversary Celebration

Twenty one members shot at our annual Club Championship competition and we were blessed with fine, dry and mostly sunny weather – perfect conditions for shooting.  Everyone arrived in plenty of time to help set up (thank you) and brought lots of delicious food and drink for afterwards (again, thank you).

Rounds being shot were:  Western, Short Western and Short Junior Western (for Juniors and New Season Archers).

Our guests of honour, Graham and Doreen Sweet, John and Julie Morton and Rachel Fenwick, the founding members of the club, arrived mid-afternoon in time to watch the second half of the competition and were seated in their own special “VIP area”  (camping chairs on the field).   Many thanks to Graham and John for their help in looking for lost arrows!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable shoot, there were plenty of smiles and lots of laughter, though sadly Ron had an equipment failure and was unable to finish.  It was especially lovely to see the newer members of the club having such a good time.

After the shoot, everyone convened into the youth club to enjoy the splendid food and drink provided and have a well-earned rest.  Awards were given (details below), Rachel Fenwick cut the celebratory cake and gave a splendid speech about her experiences with selection and qualifying for the Olympic games.  She also presented her own “President’s awards” to:

Eowyn (for her excellent shooting, rapid improvement and representation of the Club)

Ivor (for being one of the longest members of the Club)

John M (for his long-standing contribution to the Club)

Rachel H (for her contribution to the Club)

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it such an enjoyable day, but special thanks to John Neusinger, Peter Brookes and Roy Bulgin for making the day run so smoothly.

Cheers everyone, and here’s to the next 20 years!!
